Summary of Systems Administrator

This position is responsible for the installation, configuration, operation, support and maintenance of the hardware/software systems and related infrastructure.  Participates in technical research and development to enable continued innovation.  Ensures that system hardware, operating/software systems and related procedures are adhered to according to the company's values.  Will assist in team projects with technical components including but not limited to: the definition of needs, benefits, technical strategy, research, development, testing within the project life-cycle to ensure full IT support.  Responsible for end-user computing environment, applications, ERP, EDI, infrastructure, servers and email.

Role and Responsibilities of Systems Administrator

       Operations and support

  • Perform daily systemmonitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Perform regularsecurity monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
  • Monitor daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
  • Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary.
  • Create, change, and delete user accounts per request.
  • Provide support per request from various users, investigate and troubleshoot issues.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures.  Coordinate and communicate with impacted users.
  • Document processes and troubleshooting in both ticketing system and knowledgebase.


  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary.
  • Upgrade and configure system software that supports Swiss American infrastructure/ applications or end user computing environment per project or operational needs.
  • Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures.
  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.


  • Receive, evaluate and take action on security and facilities issues in a timely manner in order to ensure that the facility and security systems are operational at all times
  • Maintain security systems so that access to buildings and to systems is limited to only those that are supposed to have access.
  • Responsible for handling and maintaining sensitive information in a confidential manner.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Education Requirements

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience preferred. Computer systems or IT experience and/or educational classes is required.

  • Strong understanding in the following systems: (strong understanding in at least two systems required)
    • Windows Servers
    • Exchange Server
    • PC cloning / builds
    • VMWare
    • Cisco routers and switches
    • ERP systems
    • EDI
  • IT experience including help desk responsibilities
  • Able to respond to emergencies and issues quickly as they occur
  • Detail oriented
  • Strong project management skills
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills
  • PC application knowledge; including Microsoft Office
  • Motivated self-starter with strong teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills
